The Mexican stock market loses 1.02% and breaks five-day streak on the rise

Mexico City, Mar 23 The Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV) fell on Wednesday by 1.02% in its main indicator, to 55,154.68 points, breaking a five-session run up, the last three with all-time highs. The Price and Quotes Index (CPI), the BMV's main indicator “closed at a loss, being the first retracement after advancing for five consecutive sessions with a cumulative amount of 5.52% and with a new all-time high reached in Tuesday's session,” Banco Base analyst Jesús Anacarsis López explained to Efe. The new all-time high of the Mexican Stock Exchange recorded on Tuesday was 55,722.48 points. He noted that within the CPI “only six stations, of the top 35, won”, including the Mexican Stock Exchange with 1.35%, Genoma Lab with 1.2%, Grupo Aeroporuario del Centro with 0.59%, Orbia with 0.47%, Coca-Cola Femsa with 0.33% and Telesites with 0.04%. While the greatest losses were concentrated in stations such as Gruma with -4.84%, Banco Regional with -4.32% and Liverpool with -3.18%. With the advance of this day, the CPI accumulates a year-to-date return of 3.56%. On the day, the Mexican peso appreciated 0.44% against the dollar, trading at 20.18 units per greenback on the interbank market. The CPI closed at 55,154.68 units with a loss of 567.8 points and a negative variation of 1.02% compared to the previous session. The volume traded on the market reached 207.1 million securities for an amount of 22,902 million pesos (about 1,134.8 million dollars). Of the 727 companies listed on the day, 249 ended up with their prices rising, 448 had losses and 30 closed unchanged. The titles with the greatest increase were from the airline Aeromexico (AEROMEX) with 18.09%; the oil company Vista Oil & Gas (VISTA A) with 11.65%, and the domestic product marketer Grupo Famsa (GFAMSA A) with 8.55%. In contrast, the securities with the greatest downward variation were from Value Grupo Financiero (VALUEGF O) with -4.78%; food producer and marketer Gruma (GRUMA B), with -4.84%, and non-alcoholic beverages producer Organización Cultiba (CULTIBA B) with -4.76%.
