After a vibrant definition in the packaging, the Australian Kaden Groves (Team BikeExchange) won the second stage of the Volta a Catalunya 2022, which was disputed over 202.4 kilometers between the towns of L'Escala and Perpignan. Just a few inches apart, German Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain - Victorious) took second place.
What seemed like a day without major setbacks on the road map ended up becoming a real headache for cyclists. In the final stage of the race, the squad looked nervous and this detonated in several falls, which hurt several contenders for the general classification, such as the British Simon Yates, who went to the ground with 16 kilometers to go to the finish and lost 32 seconds.
This same time difference affected Dutchman Tom Dumoulin, Australian Jai Hindley and Spaniard Carlos Rodriguez, so they must now 'row from back' if they want to have opportunities to win the title.

Several Colombians managed to save the day as a result of their good placement in the platoon. Nairo Quintana, Sergio Higuita and Esteban Chaves, called to be protagonists in the Spanish race, were able to maintain the differences compared to the main group, so they had an improvement in the qualifiers. Now, the goal is set on this Wednesday's stage, which will present the high mountain for the first time.
Juan Sebastián Molano was another high point for Colombia on the day. The rider from Paipa, Boyacá, has not taken off the top positions, and this Tuesday he demonstrated his good physical condition with a fifth position in the final sprint. Likewise, at the moment he is the best 'Coffee Grower' in the general standings, placed in position five.
The leadership also underwent modifications, beyond Groves' triumph. Jonas Hvideberg (Team DSM) is the one who ranks at the top of the podium, although the differences are very tight. In second and third positions are Michael Matthews and Hugo Hofstetter with one and seven seconds apart, respectively.
Four Colombian cyclists say 'present' one step down: Chaves, Higuita, Quintana and Chaves are only 11 seconds from the tip.

This Wednesday's fraction could shake the overall standings, as it will feature three top-notch ports. The start will be flat, but, with the passing of the kilometers, the terrain will sting upwards. First you will pass by Mont Louis (9.2 km - 5.6%), followed by a small height. After a not very long descent, cyclists will make the ascent to Collada de Toses (20.2 km - 3.1%), and thus, face the decisive stage of the day: La Molina.
Due to the characteristics of this port, offensive movements could occur in the first five kilometers, since these are the ones with the greatest inclination (averages greater than 7%). In the second part of the port, the terrain will become “softer” with stretches between three and five percent slope.
A total of 161.1 kilometers will be run, starting in Perpignan and ending with the aforementioned ascent to La Molina, almost 1,700 meters above sea level.
