In the midst of the controversy over the difficulties that the Government will face in realizing gas imports in the winter in the face of rising international prices and restrictions on accessing foreign exchange to pay for them, Energy Secretary Darío Martínez assured that the Government has the funds to deal with payments but at a reasonable price.

“With this volatility it is very difficult to do futurology at this time. Geopolitics here is going to play very strong and that is why values rise and fall but always within high levels. In the values we are seeing today, we think so, but I want to be very respectful of this critical situation that is being experienced worldwide,” he said in a talk with journalists.

“We have the funds to import gas in winter, but at reasonable prices,” the official said this afternoon after participating in the opening of the Oil & Gas Expo, the event that brings together all representatives of the energy sector in La Rural in which he referred to the opportunities generated by the demand for gas in the world to Argentina.

Continue to increase gas production, be gas exporters in the region but also to increase oil values in a scheme where we not only ensure supply but also be able to be net oil exporters. These are all definitions that are being made, decisions of the Government of Alberto Fernández and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner,” he said of the objectives of the management.

“We are constantly monitoring international prices and the first line of defense in the face of this crisis is the Gas Ar Plan and now the gas pipeline to be able to have it connected by 2023 and be able to incorporate 44 million cubic meters per day. This winter we are going to have to be constantly monitoring,” he said.

Martínez recalled that 16 months ago the Government launched the Gas Ar Plan to stop the decline in production, “We no longer have any more decline and we have an increase in production with this challenge of developing the gas pipeline that has a minimum term,” he said.

At the inauguration of the industry exhibition, Martínez highlighted that gas production compared to the same period last year increased by 11% and that the decline was left behind. “2020 is not a good year to compare, but it also grew compared to 2019, which was pre-pandemic,” he explained.

“The challenge posed by the world, with a crisis and great volatility, is a complex situation for this winter but an opportunity for the future, for the medium and long term. The Government generated predictability and clear rules, rebuilt the trust that had been lost,” he stressed in his speech.

Martínez also highlighted that the growth of oil production surprised the industry and that work is being done to solve the current bottleneck that was generated in the capacity to transport crude oil. “Gas and oil production in Argentina has no ceiling,” the official hoped.
