Sao Paulo, 17 Mar Brazilian Corinthians announced Thursday the sale of young attacking midfielder Gabriel Pereira to New York City, a club of Grupo City, which also owns English Manchester City, among other football teams in the world. The values of the transfer were not disclosed by the São Paulo group, but the Brazilian press claims that it was closed for 5.5 million dollars. Trained in the club's lower categories, Pereira, 20, has been a player in the first team of Corinthians since 2020. Throughout that time he participated in 47 matches, in which he scored two goals. “Corinthians thanks Gabriel Pereira for his dedication with the albinegro mantle and wishes him success in the sequence of his career,” the Brazilian squad said in a brief note. In his first statements to his new club, Pereira said that moving to New York to play 'Major League Soccer' (MLS) is “something really attractive” for him. “Representing and living in the best city in the world and bringing joy to passionate fans was an easy decision,” he said.
