Faced with the controversy over the release of El Último Rey: El Hijo Del Pueblo, an unauthorized bioseries on Televisa Univision about the life of Vicente Fernández, television producer Reynaldo López lashed out at Charro de Huentitán by blaming him for allegedly harming ranch music, being a controller and opponent of freedom of expression.

The producer who has been working on Televisa for more than 26 years took to his Twitter account to express his point of view on the controversy that broke out before the premiere of the program based on El Último Rey, a book written by Argentinian journalist Olga Wornat. He began by stating that the interpreter of Por tu damned amor was a controlling person within the medium.

“Don Vicente always wanted to control everything around him: media, press, radio, imitators and even other singers, he never allowed anyone to eat the crumbs that fell from his table, only he authorized anyone who could imitate him,” he wrote in response to the press release issued by María del Refugio Abarca, a widow of the singer.

According to the words of Reynaldo López, El Charro de Huentitán used to select singers who would open their performances in palenques and, in case a businessman wanted to hire another person, he supposedly canceled his show, a situation that would have spread to radio and press. However, the strongest assertion came when he blamed him for harming the presence of ranch music in the country.

If ranchera music almost ended in Mexico, it was thanks to him. Don Vicente, a press controller, so that if they published something he didn't like, he would ban the media. If an actor tried to imitate it, he used all his influences to prohibit him from being hired. That was also Don Vicente Fernández,” he continued.

Finally, the television producer reiterated that Chente would have been an opponent of freedom of expression during his career in the media. He also assured that his testimony can be verified by other artists, in this way he showed his disgust at the legal process that the Fernández family initiated against the bioseries because they did not have their authorization.

“An eternal controller and opponent of freedom of expression. Many singers and actors will be able to attest to this. Now they want to forbid the public from knowing their story,” he added.
