Two Brazilian clubs are looking for Agustín Almendra: the stance taken by the Boca leadership

The midfielder xeneize who was separated from the squad has suitors in Brazilian football: what will happen to his future

Two weeks ago Agustín Almendra's career took an unexpected turn: after having a short circuit with some teammates and Sebastián Battaglia in full training, he was separated from the squad. The talented 21-year-old midfielder has been working since then with the Reserva group, led by Hugo Ibarra and Mauricio Serna. The coaching staff does not consider it because of its act of indiscipline and in the next few days it could pack the bags: two Brazilian clubs want it.

In the last hours, information circulated that Santos intends to stay with the services of Almendra, who was not even called up for the last match of the second team (he played football in Ezeiza last Saturday in a friendly with Cañuelas). As it transpired, the Peixe would offer a loan with a fee and a purchase option of 3 million dollars for half of its record.

From La Ribera they assured Infobae that there was still no official offer, but they warned that they will not let the footballer go on loan: he is sold or nothing. It is not yet clear whether the people of São Paulo will be in a position to formalize a proposal that satisfies the xeneize Football Council, although they have room for manoeuvre as the Brazilian market closes in April. Santos will not play in the Copa Libertadores but will perform, with the hand of the Argentine coach Fabián Bustos, in the group stage of the South American 2022.

The team of Vila Belmiro have seen the former captain of the Argentine U20 since last edition of the Libertadores, as he played the two matches valid for the group stage of the contest. So far this year, Almendra only added 12 official minutes (he entered over the end of the matches against Colón de Santa Fe and Rosario Central). After being left out of the bench of substitutes in the match against Independiente in Avellaneda (February 27), his interview with Battaglia was recorded and he was not concentrated again.

But Santos would not be the only Brazilian club that has Argentine behind the wheel, since Flamengo could make an attempt for him. In either case, the Boquense directive will announce that it will only negotiate through a sale. Although he knows that the player's sports news is not ideal, they are not going to give it away on the market either (something similar happened with Sebastian Villa, who came close to emigrating to Russian football).

The present of Almendra in Boca is delicate because it has the thumb down of the coaching staff but also of the referents of the squad. Darío Benedetto was very harsh in referring to his situation: “These are things that, in the long run, were going to happen, things that could not be tolerated anymore. We banked the coach's decision to death together with the Council as well. There are things that go beyond the limit and I think it was the right decision. There is a very nice group of people and a very healthy competition. This had to be taken out by the root and it was taken out by the root.”
