The Prime Minister of Poland, Czech Republic and Slovenia met with Ukrainian President Volodymir Zelensky in Kiev on Tuesday to make the first visit of foreign leaders to the Ukrainian capital, which was besieged after the Russian invasion.

Arriving by train, the head of the government sat around the table with the President of Ukraine Denis Shmyhal and the President of Ukraine to explain the situation in detail.

“We are bombing everywhere, not only in Kiev, but also in the western regions, Zelenski told them, according to a video posted on his Telegram account.

“We must stop this tragedy in the East as soon as possible. That is why we are in Kiev with (Poland) Deputy Prime Minister Yaroslav Kazinsky, Petr Piala (Czech Republic) and Prime Minister Yanez Jansa (Slovenia).” Mateusz Morawiecki, head of the Polish government, wrote on Facebook.

The purpose of the visit is to “reaffirm” the European Union's (EU) support for Ukraine,” he added.

Shmyhal confirmed the arrival of the prime minister in a message on Twitter, having previously greeted “the courage of true friends of Ukraine.”

He said the talks will support Ukraine and focus on “tightening sanctions against Russian aggression.”

The visit occurs as Russia bombards targets across Ukraine, including Kiev, which is almost surrounded by Moscow troops, and Russia and Ukraine hold talks that will continue on Wednesday to end the nearly three-week war.
