France Still Studying Paris Olympic Bid
French Olympic Committee president Denis Masseglia tells Around the Rings that there is still plenty of work ahead to establish if Paris can stage a credible bid for the 2024 Olympics.
"It’s too early to speak about it. We wish to be a candidate but we know also that there are some conditions to fulfill," he told ATR.
Masseglia, re-elected head of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) last month, said a CNOSF commission was analyzing the feasibility of a bid.
Stakeholders in a possible Paris bid were being consulted and work was continuing on how a 2024 concept could be organized and financed, he added.
He noted that analysis of the "geopolitical situation" was a major factor in a bid moving ahead, indicating that a September vote by the IOC Session for Istanbul or Madrid for the 2020 Games would likely prevent a French bid for the next edition.
