Wrestler Stripped of Bronze for Doping
Uzbek wrestler Soslan Tigiev is the first man to lose a medal from the 2012 Olympics for doping.
The IOC announced Wednesday the decision of its Executive Board to redistribute the 74kg freestyle bronze from London to fourth-place finisher Gabor Hatos of Hungary after Tigiev tested positive for the banned stimulant methylhexaneamine following their Aug. 10 match.
In its decision, the IOC ordered the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan to return the medal as soon as possible and requested that the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles "consider any further action within its own competence" concerning Tigiev, also the 74kg silver medalist from Beijing.
Women’s shot put champion Nadzeya Ostapchuk of Belarus is the only other athlete to be stripped of a medal from the Games for doping.

Rio Launches Mascot Search
Rio 2016’s request for proposals is open to select mascots for the Games.
"The goal is that both the Olympic and Paralympic mascots are aligned with the pillars of Rio 2016 and the values of the Olympic and Paralympic Movement," reads a Wednesday statement from the organizing committee.
International firms need not apply – the RFP is open only to Brazilian professionals and companies.
"The idea in opening a selection process is to value the Brazilian animation, film and design market and encourage creativity to develop the best ideas," says Rio 2016 brand director Beth Lula.
"The theme is open. The creative proposal that best responds to the target public, children and young people, will be selected."
Announcements of the winners are expected with around two years to go until the Games.

Joint Bids for Ice Hockey Champs
Denmark and Latvia are combining their bids for the 2017 IIHF World Hockey Championship.
According to a Wednesday release from the IIHF, the capitals of Copenhagen and Riga would co-host the event, with Copenhagen staging the semi-finals and final. The new Copenhagen Arena will be completed in 2015.
Riga hosted the IIHF World Championship in 2006.
"I believe that this bid to bring the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship to Denmark for the very first time shows our commitment and highlights our vision for the future of hockey," said Danish Ice Hockey Association president Henrik Bach Nielsen, also a member of the IIHF Council.
France and Germany, the other two applicant countries, combined their bid in January. Either Berlin or Cologne would be the main venue, while the Palais Omnisports in Paris would serve as the secondary venue.
Whoever wins would become the third joint hosts of the IIHF World Championship. Sweden and Finland staged the event in 2012 and will do so again in 2013.
Hosting rights for 2017 will be allocated at the IIHF Annual Congress scheduled for May 2013 in Stockholm.
