Judo Lands in Mexico -- Federations Focus

(ATR) Also: taekwondo dismisses secretary general ... Rio 2016 to meet with feds

Guardar

(ATR) International Judo Federation president Marius Vizer traveled to Mexico this week to lay out the future of judo in the country.

The announcement, made in Mexico City on Monday, confirmed that next year’s IJF World Masters - the final Rio 2016 qualifying event - will be held in Guadalajara in May 2016. The federation also announced the creation of the IJF Training Center for the Americas.

"It is our duty to support each national judo federation to organize judo at its national and grassroots level, in order to achieve the sports and educational objectives of judo," said Vizer.

In attendance for the announcement were Mexican Olympic Committee president Jaime Padilla, Mexico sports minister Jesus Mena and 29 national judo federation presidents for a development seminar.

Taekwondo Dismisses Secretary General

The secretary general of the World Taekwondo Federation was fired for being located too far from the headquarters.

Jean-Marie Ayer is based in Lausanne while federation president Chung-won Choue lives in Seoul. This was "causing administrative inefficiencies," according to a statement from the WTF.

Choue called the decision difficult but said the "structural situation" of having the two men so far apart made it difficult "to react fast and effectively in a situation in which the world of sports is moving fast."

The WTF will maintain an office in Lausanne despite the departure of Ayer, who will take a lesser role with the federation.

Ayer has been part of WTF since 2006 and was appointed secretary general in 2012.

The dates for each federation visit are as follows:
