(ATR) Rio 2016 launched its volunteer program on Thursday, urging Olympic fans to become "the heroes of the Games."

Registration will remain open until November 15, and candidates from all over the world are encouraged to apply. Volunteer hopefuls can register by clickinghere.Rio 2016 will offer an on-line English course for everyone selected as a volunteer.

"The Volunteer Program of the Rio 2016 Games will reflect Brazilian diversity; of talents, cultures, ages and interests," Rio 2016 President Carlos Nuzman said in a statement.

"All this diversity will be added to the other thousands of people who will come to Brazil for a greater goal, to participate in the realization of the largest multisport event in the world with excellence, passion and joy, for the first time in Brazil."

To promote the volunteer drive, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff and famous Brazilian Olympians will promote the volunteer initiative across Brazil in a campaign called "Be Your Heroes’ Hero." The ads will run on Brazilian television networks and on the internet.

Rio 2016 will require some 70,000 volunteers, with 45,000 needed for the Olympics and 25,000 for the Paralympics.For the football tournament, 6,000 volunteers will be needed in the cities of São Paulo, Brasília, Belo Horizonte and Salvador.

Applicants must be at least 18 years if age by February 2016.
