
Runner Found Dead At Age 42
Antonio Pettigrew, a U.S. sprinter who was stripped of an Olympic gold after admitting to doping, was found dead Tuesday, authorities said.
The 42-year-old testified to taking human growth hormone and EPO before, during and after the Sydney Olympics while on the witness stand during the BALCO designer steroid scandal.
The IOC stripped the 4x400m relay team of its medals in August 2008. Pettigrew was the third of the six-member squad to be tainted by doping.
He was graduated from St. Augustine's College in Raleigh, North Carolina, and was an accomplished high school and collegiate track coach.
National Assembly Backs PyeongChang Bid
PyeongChang 2018 has the support of lawmakers from the surrounding Gangwon Province.
Members of South Korea’s National Assembly met Tuesday to discuss how the legislature can support the Olympic bid ahead of the IOC Evaluation Commission’s visit next year.
"The Korean people have wanted to bring the Olympic Winter Games to PyeongChang for a long time, and PyeongChang has invested a huge amount of time, effort and real investment into bid preparations," assemblyman Yeon Hee Choi said in a statement.
"Like the Government, the National Assembly is ready to provide full and strong support for PyeongChang’s bid to host the 2018 Games."
The meeting focused on the infrastructural improvements and venue construction necessary for a PyeongChang Winter Games.
"We are very pleased that there is absolute commitment for our bid and the new infrastructure being built at all levels of government," bid chairman Yang Ho Cho said.

"This campaign is designed to remind everyone of the centralimportance of developing athletes' skills and abilities - in schools, inplaygrounds and in sporting clubs - alongside inspiring young peoplekeen on sport or simply for general wellbeing and health reasons," UKAchief executive Niels de Vos said in a statement.
"I Am An Athlete will also inspire parents and grandparents to reconnect with their inner athlete and become active once again."
Canada Gets Three Curling Champs
Canada will host curling’s World Women’s Championships in 2012and2014 and the Men’s World Championship in 2013.
The three-year deal inked Wednesday between the World Curling Federation and the Canadian Curling Association gives the CCA the first right of refusal for renewal come 2014.
Canadian sports television channel TSN remains the exclusive broadcaster of the curling championships in Canada.
Rugby World Cup Renews Hospitality Partnership
Rugby Travel & Hospitality Limited (RTH) will be the official corporate hospitality provider of the 2015 and 2019 Rugby World Cups.
Rugby World Cup Limited awarded the contract Wednesday to the joint venture between Sodexo UK and the Mike Burton Group.
"We are delighted to be extending our excellent partnership with RTH through to Rugby World Cup 2019 in Japan," RWCL chairman Bernard Lapasset said in a statement.
"The company has vast operational experience, a highly professional and innovative approach and is globally renowned for delivering exceptional travel and hospitality programs."
RTH managed the hospitality scene at the 2007 Rugby World Cup and will do the same next year in New Zealand.
The Rugby World Cup is the world’s third largest single sports event.
