(ATR) - Sydney, Australia will be the first stop on the worldwide route of the Olympic Torch relay for the 2004 Games. The 35-day relay will reach 20 cities which have hosted the Summer Games, plus Beijing, Cape Town, Rio de Janeiro, New York, Lausanne and Nicosia, Cyprus. The exact starting date in May 2004 hasn't been set.
The relay will be sponsored by Coca Cola, with Samsung, Euro-Sport and Gefyra S.A. taking on supplier roles.
Athens 2004 President Gianna Angelopoulos says there is the possibility of expanding the relay to include Turkey and India.
Meanwhile in Salt Lake City, the commemorative flame in the caldron from the 2002 Olympic Winter Games has been extinguished after burning for 17 days in a one-year anniversary tribute.
A delegation of leaders from the five Utah Indian nations helped farewell the flame with drums and a blessing.
