(ATR) The IOCâ??s team on the 2012 Olympics opens its New York inspection with day-long briefings on the cityâ??s bid. For the first time the commission is meeting in a room with a view, overlooking a snowy Central Park and the Christo â??Gatesâ? installation.

The commission was welcomed by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the only elected official at the opening session. Heâ??ll be speaking to reporters later today, perhaps offering new insights on his strategy to win approval for the troubled stadium plans.

NYC 2012 managing director Jay Kriegel says the bid will stress three main themes across its presentations to the IOC team: New York is a welcoming city, a spectacular place for the Games and an â??extraordinary village site.â?

The initial day of the visit has attracted modest attention from the New York media and a contingent of press from around Europe, including reporters from London, Paris, and Madrid.

The IOC panel will hear reports from the bid on concept and legacy, the Olympic Village, Paralympics, sports venues and the environment by the end of the day.
