2020 Applicant Files Due

Applicant files are due Wednesday at IOC headquarters from the six bid cities for the 2020 Olympics.

Baku and Madrid are known to be handing over their files a day early. Istanbul is timing its Lausanne visit with the launch of elements of the look of the Turkish bid. The other three bidders are Tokyo, Doha and Rome.

Sochi Co-Comm, Test Events

IOC inspectors are in Sochi through Tuesday for a visit of the 2014 Coordination Commission led by Jean-Claude Killy.

The visit coincides with a pair of FIS Ski World Cups both serving as test events for Rosa Khutor, the future Olympic alpine venue. Men finished Sunday with women scheduled to start Tuesday.

10 Years Since Salt Lake City 2002

Around the Rings will be on the scene in Salt Lake City as 10th anniversary celebrations reach a climax Saturday with an appearance from U.S. presidential hopeful and former SLOC chief Mitt Romney.

As many as 10,000 tickets could be sold for "A Tribute to Salt Lake 2002 featuring Stars On Ice"in Energy Solutions Arena. The event will feature skaters from the Games including Sarah Hughes, Jamie Sale and David Pelletier as well as a non-political speech from Romney.

IOC Women and Sport

Expect daily on-the-scene coverage from this week’s 5th World Conference on Women and Sport.

Sessions run Thursday through Saturdayin Los Angeles with a meeting of the IOC Women and Sport Commission to follow Sunday.

Speakers include IOC president Jacques Rogge, LOCOG chair Sebastian Coe, UN Women deputy executive director Lakshmi Puri, former Facebook marketing director Randi Zuckerberg and onetime Olympic hopeful archer Geena Davis, also an Academy Award-winning actress.

National Sports Day

Qatar celebrates its first annual National Sports Day on Tuesday by a decree from its Deputy Emir.

A walking program on the Corniche in Doha is schedule for 9 a.m. with other cities encouraged to organizer their own activities.
