Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1st February 2013: David Nalbandian, the two-time Olympian and one of Argentina’s most celebrated Tennis players has pledged his support to the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games [YOG] bid.
The message of support came ahead of Argentina’s Davis Cup World Group first round tie which started today against Germany at the Roca Park Tennis Stadium, Buenos Aires.
The 14,510 seat stadium, which is also the proposed Tennis venue in the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games Plan, is part of the wider Roca Park area, a 200 hectare area and one of the greenest areas in Buenos Aires. Located in the south side of the city, Roca Park will be the location of the Youth Olympic Village and will also host the Athletics and the Archery competitions should Buenos Aires be chosen to host the 2018 YOG, transforming the space into a dynamic hub of sporting excellence and a focal point for cultural activities that can be enjoyed by athletes and spectators from across the world.
Argentina is one of the most competitive nations in the Davis Cup having progressed to the quarterfinal stage or beyond in each of the last 11 years, reaching the final three times during that period. The nation will be hoping to get off to a good start this year after naming a strong line-up that includes Juan Monaco, Carlos Berlocq and Horacio Zeballos as well as Nalbandian, the former Wimbledon finalist.
Two-time Olympian and former world number three, David Nalbandian, said:
