The wait is finally over. The mystery of which artist will be chosen to amaze thousands of fans during the Opening Ceremony of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games in Peru’s National Stadium has been solved.
World-renowned singer-songwriter, producer and musician Luis Fonsi was selected by Panam Sports and Lima 2019 as the Star Artist who will help begin the continent’s most important multisport event.
With an impeccable artistic career of 20 years, Luis Fonsi is undoubtedly one of the most important and influential Latin artists in the world, breaking countless records, crossing borders and breaking language barriers along the way thanks to radio hits such as "Despacito", "Échame La Culpa", and "Imposible," among many others.
"As Panam Sports, we are proud that a singer so important and so recognized throughout the world, will perform at our Opening Ceremony. When we contacted him about the opportunity, he did not hesitate for a second. He immediately showed us his trademark sincerity and accepted the invitation. Now he is very excited to come to Lima and to share this incredible experience with the people of Peru and the athletes throughout the Americas," said Panam Sports President, Neven Ilic.
"Peru has long been known for its historical culture but the ceremonies of Lima 2019 will also show that Peru is at the heart of Pan American youth culture. We are grateful for Fonsi’s support in helping Lima 2019 celebrate sport and its values alongside thousands of young Peruvian performers as we welcome the continent’s best athletes. Together they will positively change not just the way the Americas view Peru but the way the whole world sees us," said Lima 2019 President, Carlos Neuhaus.
The award-winning artist who recently released his new hit "Date la Vuelta" with Nicky Jam and Sebastián Yatra, added:
"I’m really excited to be able to participate in a celebration as large as the Pan American Games. I love sports, I admire athletes and I can already promise you, it will be a great night," said Fonsi.
On July 26 at 7 pm at the National Stadium in Lima, the Opening Ceremony of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games will begin. The ceremony will be a party featuring the history of Peru in a colorful display with traditional Peruvian music, fireworks, the Parade of Nations for the 41 countries competing at the Games, and now, the incredible talent of one of the world’s most influential artists, Luis Fonsi.
