BR>BR>Norman Bellingham, who competed in Los Angeles, Seoul and Barcelona, has served before as a member as the USOC staff and as a member of the USOC board of directors. BR>BR>Since 1998, Bellingham has been an executive with Turner Broadcasting System in Atlanta, working on strategic planning for the cable TV network. BR>BR>Bellingham will have a similar role for the USOC, in addition to handling day-to-day operations. He will also have oversight for several USOC divisions: Audit, Development, Finance, Information Technology, Paralympics, Sales and Marketing, and Security.BR>BR>Bellingham fills a post left open for several months when Wallace "Chip" Gregson, a retired general, resigned after less than a year on the job. He was the first person to hold the COO position. BR>BR>In its press release announcing Bellingham's appointment, the USOC notes that for the first time in its history, the USOC has Olympians serving in its two highest-ranking management positions. BR>BR>USOC CEO Jim Scherr was a 1988 Olympian in wrestling.BR>BR>Bellingham will report to Scherr and begin work November 1. BR>BR>"As an athlete, Norman represented our country with honor and dignity in the Olympic Games," said Scherr in a statement. BR>BR>"In business, he has earned a reputation as an innovator with the ability to effectively work across multiple business disciplines.
