The mayor's office of Medellín reported that after two years of pandemic, the Major Week will be celebrated again without public restrictions and activities for the whole family, so the city will have a cultural offer that includes museums, theaters, spaces of the Ecrea Network, the Public Library System and film screening with the Municipal Cinematheque, in Cerro Nutibara, Conservation Park, Juan Pablo II Aeroparque and Parque Norte are part of the places on the agenda, which will end on April 17.
Citizens and visitors will be able to enjoy a wide cultural offer with more than 100 activities that include traditional religious celebrations and options that include theater, dance, literature, meeting with silleteros and artistic training.
“These different artistic expressions are promoted by the Ministry of Citizen Culture of the Mayor's Office of Medellín and the cultural organizations of our city. We hope that this time will be a good time to recharge ourselves emotionally and that culture will be its best complement,” said the Undersecretary of Art and Culture, Alexis Mejia.
The city's theaters, such as El Matacandelas, Casa Teatro El Poblado, Pequeño Teatro, the Casa del Teatro and the La Sucursal Theater will have 14 activities, including musical shows and dramatic works.
Likewise, at the Teatro Ateneo Porfirio Barba Jacob there will be an exhibition in homage to actress Nora Quintero, with photographs from the last century taken by Óscar Botero; the Viztaz Museum will see the exhibition of El Poncherazo: portraits in the old style; and in the San Pedro Cemetery Museum, on Friday, April 15, the Viacrucis will be held by facilities of the cemetery.
The Public Library System of Medellín has a wide range of programming, including talks, workshops, access to consultation and book lending services, entrance to ICT rooms, exhibitions and reservation of spaces. Also, from April 11 to 17, there will be activities around the work of maestro Fernando Botero, with guided tours that will take place at 2:00pm, in the library named after the artist, in the San Cristóbal district, with free admission.
For her part, Diana Catalina López, reading and writing promotion manager of the Public Library System of Medellín added that “for the little ones we are going to have story hours, readings with our grandparents storytelling and creative workshops. For young people there will be workshops on technological experimentation, and for adults and the whole family we schedule open exhibitions and talks”.
In addition, the silleteros of Santa Elena will be part of the agenda with “Los Silleteros Embrace the Pueblito Paisa”, a meeting with this tradition, which will take place from April 11 to 17, between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
While on April 13, the film “Matachindé” will be presented. In addition, Cerro Nutibara will have some religious celebrations such as the Eucharist of The Last Supper, on Thursday, at 2:00pm, in the Church of the Pueblito Paisa; the Holy Way of the Cross, on Friday, April 15, at 9:00am, going up the road to Pueblito Paisa; and the Eucharist of Resurrection, on Sunday, April 17, at 2:00 p. m.
The Ecrea Network organized workshops, exhibitions and musical performances, including the exhibition “Cities Without Fear: Narratives That Justify Homicide”, with the artist Tatiana Castrillón, which will be held at the Moravia Cultural Center, on April 13, 16 and 17, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Conservation Park will provide 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. throughout Easter, while the Juan Pablo II Aeroparque and Parque Norte will be open to the public on April 13, 16 and 17.
