They capture the suspect responsible for the attack on the police in Ocaña, Norte de Santander

The Attorney General's Office announced that José Javier Silva, alias Ariel, was sheltered by the prison insurance measure. This man would be one of the alleged perpetrators of the most recent attack on the police in Ocaña, Norte de Santander.

According to the entity, the evidentiary material submitted by a prosecutor from the Specialized Directorate Against Criminal Organizations was decisive for a judge to order the above-mentioned measure.

Likewise, it was established that alias Ariel would be one of the alleged leaders of the networks supporting the FARC dissidents in the Catatumbo.

According to investigations carried out by the Prosecutor's Office, this man was reportedly involved in the attack on the National Police facilities in Ocaña on April 6, when a grenade was thrown at the building causing structural damage.

The investigating body reported that José Javier Silva was captured in a search and search procedure carried out by the Public Prosecutor's Office and the National Police in Ocaña, Norte de Santander. During the procedure, the authorities found a georeferencing map of the station, the attacked police station, a submachine gun and two cell phones.

For the above-mentioned events, the Prosecutor's Office charged alias Ariel with the crimes of concert to commit crimes for the purposes of terrorism, carrying and possession of weapons of restricted use, and terrorism.

The attack on the police in Ocaña, Norte de Santander

On the afternoon of April 6, a strong explosion caused panic in Ocaña, Norte de Santander. The roar was the product of a fragmentation grenade that was thrown at the police station of that town.

According to information that became known at the time, men who were mobilizing on motorcycles were responsible for carrying out the attack. The explosion left no fatalities or injuries; however, there was damage to the infrastructure of the Second Police District.

Likewise, damage was reported to facades and windows of homes and establishments near the Ocaña Police Station.

Faced with these events, the authorities quickly issued a message of rejection and an extraordinary security council was held to establish the actions that would allow those responsible to be located.

“At this time, the Extraordinary Security Council is being held with the presence of the Public Force, the Attorney General's Office, the Personnel, the CTI, the Prosecutor's Office and the Ombudsman's Office, where the latest incident presented in the city is being studied and strategies are proposed to capture those responsible,” the Mayor's Office of Ocaña reported at the time.

The authorities also announced a reward of up to 25 million pesos for information that would allow the identification and capture of those responsible for the attack on the police.

It should be recalled that after the events, the Secretary of Government, Jaime Velásquez rejected such attacks on the population and called on the national government alerting the public order situation in Ocaña. The official requested support to prevent such attacks from continuing to take place in the municipality.
