Prime Minister Aníbal Torres generated great outrage after praising former German dictator Adolf Hitle r during the Decentralized Council of Ministers which took place today in Huancayo, with the participation of the president of the republic, Pedro Castillo.
“I give you an example: once, Adolf Hitler visits northern Italy and Mussolini shows him a motorway built from Milan to Brescia. Hitler saw that, he went to his country and filled it with motorways, airports, and made Germany the first economic power in the world”, were the words of the prime minister.
CONGRESS REACTIONS
Edward Málaga — Ungrouped Congressman
Edward Málaga, of the Purple Party, sent a letter to Prime Minister Torres asking him to rectify himself and apologize to the German people after his statements. In addition, he urged him to evaluate his resignation from office for his praise of Hitler and Mussolini.
“I reject these statements as a grave affront to the German people. Germany welcomed me for more than two decades and is an example of a developed country, which managed to overcome a dark chapter in its history to build a society with memory and rights, egalitarian, with broad freedoms and scientific and cultural development,” he says in the office.
María del Carmen Alva — President of the Congress
“What Premier Aníbal Torres said, praising the genocidal Hitler, has offended the thousands of Peruvians who expect clear answers from the government. I demand sensibility from the Executive to address our people and generate concrete decisions in the face of this harsh crisis,” he said.
Carlos Anderson — Ungrouped Congressman
“I heard Aníbal Torres praise Hitler and his supposed gesture of creating road infrastructure in Germany. I'm sorry to say that Mr. Torres doesn't know history, let alone economic history. His prejudices lead him to ignore the genocidal acts of the greatest murderer in history,” he posted on Twitter.
Flor Pablo Medina — Ungrouped Congressman
“He criticized Hitler's statements as an example and requested the departure of the head of the PCM. I am collecting signatures for interpellation, and I hope that their subsequent censorship will be approved by Congress,” he told the press from outside the Legislative Palace.
Patricia Juárez — Congressman of Fuerza Popular
“Terrible expressions of Aníbal Torres praising and pondering Adolf Hitler. It reflects his undemocratic mood and his notorious moral incapacity,” he posted.
OMBUDSMAN'S OFFICE IS PRONOUNCED
The Office of the Ombudsman spoke after Premier Torres' statements about Adolf Hitler. “We strongly reject statements by the president of the Council of Ministers on the genocide and dictator Adolf Hitler. Expressions reflect deep ignorance of history and show contempt for millions of victims caused by Nazism,” they published on social networks.
The institution added that “the atrocities committed by Hitler forced humanity to understand the universal nature of human rights and the obligation of the State to respect and protect them.”
“In our view, an official who does not know the historical origin of human rights and shows contempt for them cannot remain in office,” he said.
