The symbol that Federico Gutiérrez already had on the presidential card with the Team for Colombia logo will be added that of Fico in white capital letters and with a vinotinto background, after being authorized by the National Electoral Council (CNE) through resolution 1782 of 2022.

Although as explained in the same document, the Full Hall of the CNE authorized the other to put the symbol with the name of the centre-right coalition, in that collective they requested the change to add the new logo on Monday, April 4.

“In the light of the foregoing, the National Electoral Council resolves (...) to register the new logo-symbol of the coalition called Team for Colombia,” they said.

In this way, it would be guaranteed that the pseudonym of the presidential candidate appears on the card, even if his name must appear as it appears on the identity document, as explained in the newspaper El Tiempo, if the CNE rules in favor of a lawsuit instituted on this subject by the left-wing coalition Historic Pact.

It should be remembered that the former mayor of Medellín had settled this controversy after the National Electoral Council decided to allow, on Thursday, March 31, that pseudonym on the card.

The decision was made despite the fact that Law 62 of 1988, the most recent provision on the subject in the current Electoral Code, states that when candidates register to participate before the registrar, they must present their identity document and their real and full name appears on it, which is written on the form.

“In the election for President of the Republic, citizens will vote with electoral cards printed with the symbols, emblems and colors of the different political parties or movements participating in the voting, with clear printing of the name and surnames of the respective candidate,” the regulations read.

Thus, presidential candidates are registered with emblems, names and surnames, and these must be printed on the card. However, there are no specific provisions on the use of trailers in this instance.

It is worth mentioning that there is a history of candidates for other corporations who appear with trailers on the cards, more history of candidates who wanted to make use of them but were prevented from their local registry office. The list includes Luis Eduardo Garzón, known as Lucho Garzón, for the 2003 Mayor's Office of Bogotá and the late Marcos Ataya, who was known as Machete and thus appeared on the card for the mayor's office of Arauca (Arauca).

It should be clarified at this point that it is not true that the candidate's name should appear in full on the card and it has not always happened. In fact, the current card does not appear “Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego”, “Sergio Fajardo Valderrama” or “Luis Emilio Pérez Gutiérrez”.

In the case of the representative of the Team for Colombia, his natural name is Federico Andrés Gutiérrez Zuluaga. However, on the card it appears as “Fico Gutiérrez”, with his nickname instead of his first name and without his second surname.

Before that, he had also appeared under his nickname on the card of the interparty consultation he won. On the other hand, Alejandro Char Chaljub, the second place in the Team for Colombia, did not compete with his real name either but with the apocope that identifies him among the people and before the media: “Álex Char”.
