After two years without the Bogotá Ibero-American Theater Festival due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the biannual festival returned to the capital with national and international productions and 140 street plays. This event, which began last April 1st, will run until the 17th of the same month. The programming was conducted by Alejandra Borrero, Atala Bernal and Misael Torres.
The return of the festival was marked by the controversy of the 16 international works canceled with one day left before the start of the festival. A new program was presented through the official website, since works such as Frankestein, Museum of Fiction I, Empire; Nomad and Raphaelle, among others, did not appear on the billboard.
In the most recent programming, El Perdón, from Spain; Pinochio, from the United Kingdom; Song of the North, from the United States; Origin of Tale, from Lebanon; The Bunde del Agua (co-production with France), and Brief Encounters with Repulsive Men, from Argentina, were still in place.
On the other hand, following this news, W Radio spoke to one of the affected people who had bought a ticket to attend the vast majority of international presentations. Well, this cancellation caused a series of questions regarding the return of the money paid for the works that were postponed.
In an interview with Infobae, Lia Hennan explained that the Ibero-American Theater Festival in Bogotá will be held in two cycles. The first, which is currently being carried out; and the second that the works that were postponed to this first phase due to lack of resources will be presented. Given this situation, from the organization of the event, the order was given to the logistics operator of the ticket office, that is, TuBoleta, to offer three alternatives to those who were affected: to continue with the postponement, choose another work or the refund of the money paid
“We lasted almost a week calling many of the people affected by offering them options where we clarified that the work they paid for no longer has a definite date, so they can change it to see another international one. Now, we have to keep in mind that 50% of the people we were able to contact said yes, 49% have not answered and the remaining percentage did not accept the change,” explained Hennan.
In addition, the spokeswoman for the firm Crow explained that: “We depend on companies, but we tentatively think that it will take place from July 19 to August 7 or during the month of August, which coincides with the capital's birthday.”
On the other hand, 16 theaters will be used to carry out this festival, which reached its 17th version and will be presented with 30 national and international works during its first cycle. In total, there will be 24 Colombian works and six guest countries: Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States, Lebanon, Belgium and Argentina; and in addition, there will be a Colombian-French production.
Sixteen works had to be postponed for economic reasons. These are the presentations that would remain for the second cycle of the festival: Trilogy Woman History and Identity, The Complacent Lie, Nomad, Frankestein, Museum Of Fiction Empire 1 - Macbeth, Cardenche Song, Flower Man, The Forest Over The Forest, The Wild Duck, Superpasito, Doubt, Quixote Mirror Of The Soul, The Night Devours His Children, Beginners- What do we talk about when we talk about love, brothers and more than two.
