Ukrainian authorities said Saturday that Vladimir Putin's troops were withdrawing from the northern regions of Ukraine to the east and south.

The Russian army had assured days ago that it would focus its offensive on the Donbas.

Meanwhile, at least seven people were killed and 34 injured this Sunday in a bombing attack on a residential neighborhood of Kharkiv, a city located in northeastern Ukraine, the local prosecutor's office reported.

“The Russian occupants shelled residential buildings in the Slobodskyy district of Kharkiv. As a result, a dozen houses and a trolleybus depot were damaged. According to preliminary information, seven people died, 34 were injured, including three children,” said the press service of the prosecutor's office.

On the other hand, in Dergachi, very close to Kharkiv, “at least three people were killed and seven injured to varying degrees” in the bombing of a residential neighborhood, Mayor Viatcheslav Zadorenko reported on Facebook.

All the victims were civilians, the mayor explained.

In addition, six people were also killed this Sunday and one was injured in Russian bombings in the Donetsk region, the head of the regional military administration Pavel Kirilenko announced on Telegram.

Amid intense attacks by Russian troops, at least 2,694 people were evacuated this Sunday from the Ukrainian towns of Mariupol, Berdyansk and the Lugansk separatist region, as reported by Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereschuk.

“A total of 2,694 people have been evacuated so far,” the official said in a statement released on her Facebook account.

Vereschuk also reported that 469 civilians who have arrived in Zaporiyia have left the city of Mariupol in their own vehicles.

He stressed that “ten buses have evacuated 408 residents from the city of Berdyansk”, adding that during the day “the bus convoy that was stopped by the Russian military on Saturday was able to continue its journey and evacuate 350 people from Mariupol and Berdyansk”.

The Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister also stressed that seven buses have arrived in the town of Mangush, accompanied by a delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross. “Negotiations are underway so that tomorrow they will continue their transfer to Mariupol,” he explained.

“From the cities of Lisichansk, Severodonetsk, Rubizhne and Kreminna, in the Lugansk region, 1,467 people have been evacuated,” said Vereschuk.

UN Secretary General António Guterres on Sunday expressed his “shock” at the images of civilians killed in the Ukrainian town of Bucha, just outside Kiev, and called for an independent investigation into what had happened.

“I am deeply shocked by the images of civilians killed in Bucha, Ukraine. It is essential that an independent investigation leads to effective accountability,” Guterres said in a brief statement.

The United States, the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom, among others, have already condemned these deaths and have announced that they are preparing new ones sanctions against Russia in response to these actions considered by Ukraine as a “genocide”. However, Moscow denies these accusations and denounces a “montage”.

“It is time to do everything possible to make the war crimes of the Russian army the last manifestation of this evil on earth,” said Volodymir Zelensky.

On Sunday, local lifeguards found 75 bodies in a mass grave in Bucha. The bodies of 410 civilians were also found in other territories near Kiev recovered by Ukrainian troops, Ukrainian Attorney General Iryna Venediktova reported.
