Jorge Montoya on demonstrations: “People can't go out to the streets to make a fuss”

The plenary session of the Congress began the plenary session scheduled for today with a minute of silence for the victims of the demonstrations in Junín over the last weekend. In addition, a small number of parliamentarians intervened before hearing the announcements of the ministers who participated in the dialogue tables with the leaders of transport and farmers' guilds. The congressman for Popular Renewal, Jorge Montoya, said that knowing what the ministers have done would not solve the crisis that still continues in several regions of the country.

According to Montoya, there is a “political crisis that has never been seen before with a social revolt in all sectors of the country”, and he stressed that some of the demands made during the protests are “just right”. “The point is that we are in a situation where we need to unite and this union cannot be through a dialogue of listening to ministers talk about what they have done,” added the parliamentarian.

One of the ways that would promote the resolution of conflicts that have been going on for more than a week would be the summons of Pedro Castillo to Congress, this according to the member of Popular Renewal. “He has to decide what to do and I think that will serve to reassure and pacify the country. We cannot continue to be divided, we cannot each continue on his own path. We have to come together and the only way to do that is in this Congress,” he told the rest of the national representation.

During his speech, Montoya assured that if President Castillo wants governance, he will have it, “but he has to take the lead and change the actions that have been carried out so far and solve the problems that he has in his portfolio for more than two months without solution, knowing that what is being presented in this moment”.

Regarding the demonstrations that have shown greater signs of radicalization since the morning of April 4, he added that “people cannot go out to the streets to make a fuss, they can claim yes, but without causing problems for others.” In addition, he stressed that the Armed Forces should not participate in the control of protests, but should be left to the population “self-control in order to achieve peace and tranquility and no more dead in the streets”

DISTINCT POSITION

Although Congress requests the presence of the head of State to find solutions to the problems facing the country during these days, the mayor of Lima, Jorge Muñoz surprised with a publication suggesting the advance of elections in order for President Pedro Castillo to leave the post granted by popular vote in the recent elections.

“The misgovernment of the country is proof that you, President Pedro Castillo, are not the leader you said you were. Today Peru is overflowing socially, politically and economically, and there seems to be no way out. An immediate solution must be sought and this situation put to an end. You said you would move the elections forward if it did not meet the expectations of Peruvians, what do you expect?” , he wrote on Twitter.

Criticism of the president of the republic intensified this morning when, during the report of the closure of transport routes, he continued his activities, including the inauguration of an educational center. His absence was also recalled during the dialogue tables at the Huanca stadium in which ministers and leaders of different guilds participated.
