“On behalf of my wife Natali, my son José Gabriel, my parents and siblings, I want to thank the President of the Republic, Iván Duque Márquez, for allowing me to work for my country from the Ministry of Housing, City and Territory; the most valuable experience of my professional life,” said Jonathan Malagón initially, former Minister of Housing.

In the statement, he clarified that his resignation is due nothing but to personal reasons and not because of any offer to belong to one of the presidential campaigns that are being carried out today in the territory to meet the new president.

“I have renounced this honor for personal and family reasons that are summarized in the need to accompany my wife during pregnancy and enjoy the company of my parents after the difficult times we live because of COVID-19,” Malagón told the letter.

He added in the statement:

“During these 1,325 days of government, we achieved things that many called impossible. We managed to consolidate Colombia as the country in the hemisphere where homes are bought the most per capita, reaching historical figures in the sector, where on average every two and a half minutes a Colombian can fulfill the dream of owning his own home.

Likewise, by strengthening the commitment to equity, we went from 26% to 80% the allocation of VIS subsidies for families with incomes below two minimum wages. In addition, today 6 out of 10 grants are allocated to women heads of household.

We also break down the myth that young people do not buy housing and through initiatives such as Young Owners we consolidate an irreversible trend. Today, 43% of VIS homes are purchased by Colombians under 30 years of age.

For its part, thanks to the joint work between Prosperidad Social, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Housing, we have been able to benefit more than 600,000 Colombian households through the Casa Digna Vida Digna program, a commitment to equity that allows Colombians to receive housing qualifications and improvement. environments.

Finally, in terms of drinking water, we managed to get more than 2.5 million Colombians to access the precious liquid for the first time. This means that on average every 45 seconds a Colombian is connected to the service. This has been thanks to the completion of more than 315 drinking water and basic sanitation projects that improved the conditions of habitability and dignity of millions of people in Colombia.

I thank the more than a thousand employees from the Ministry of Housing, City and Territory with whom I had the opportunity to share and work as a team. Thanks to each other’s commitment, passion and vocation, we have managed to transform the lives of millions of Colombians. This team understood that dreams are dreams to the extent that we can make them come true, to them all my respect, admiration and affection.”
