Resident, former member of the group Calle 13, returned to the stage after two years when the pandemic froze life in a certain way and especially cultural events where crowds usually meet to enjoy their favorite artists.

René, once again felt what it's like to be in a Vive Latino after 15 years since it was first presented, and it was a rather controversial show because of the way they received him and Calle 13 at that time in Mexico.

This time, with his career fully consolidated, full of awards and great hits, more than 50,000 fans waited for him to sing all his songs, which are usually loaded with many social messages, denunciation and protest against the situation of several Latin American countries.

In that interview, he also mentioned the controversial song that he released together with the Argentine DJ and producer Bizarrap, referring to his clash with the Colombian reggaeton player J Balvin, with whom they had also had a rifirrafe through social networks.

There he mentioned that his song was aimed at the coffee grower, but that it could also be a message to the rest of the music industry that he says puts fame before hard work.

“It has been very cool to return to the stage after the pandemic and start with that song live as it is a song that tells you what the current industry is doing beyond throwing a specific character like J. Balvin could be dedicated to another artist,” he said.

The Colombian J. Balvin did not respond to the song, because at that time his mother was in a poor state of health in a hospital and he focused on accompanying her recovery after she was close to death.

The Puerto Rican also made it clear: “I established with this song the differences between being famous and being an artist and the value of the word. You can have all the money in the world, but the power of the word is not bought and you can't stop it.”

Recently, Residente released a new single called “This is Not America” in which he exposes the social problems that affect several countries of the Latin American continent and also attacks the United States in relation to calling itself America, ignoring that geographically it is a complete continent.
