Federico Jeanmaire receives the XXII Fernando Quiñones Novel Prize

Cadiz (Spain), 23 Mar The Argentine writer Federico Jeanmaire received today in Cadiz (southern Spain) the XXII Unicaja Novel Prize “Fernando Quiñones”, which was awarded to him for his novel “Darwin or the origin of old age”. The edition of the winning novel, a literary journey through life and old age, was presented at the same event. The Unicaja Novel Prize, named after the Spanish writer Fernando Quiñones, is organized by the Unicaja Foundation and endowed with 18,000 euros (almost $20,000 at the current exchange rate), in addition to the publication of the winning work in Alianza Editorial. “Darwin or the origin of old age”, chosen among the 1,305 novels from 36 countries that were presented at the festival, is a work starring a musician who, at the point of turning 60, arrives in deserted Galapagos Islands, a place where the protagonist, in love with a woman younger than him, travels because he wants to be alone. Federico Jeanmaire, born in Baradero (Argentina) in 1957 and professor of Argentine Literature, has written more than twenty works for which he has won different awards, such as the “Ricardo Rojas” Special Prize for the best Argentine novel written between 1997 and 1999, awarded to him by the Government of the City of Buenos Aires for “Mitre”. He also won the Emecé Prize for Novel in 2008 for “Interior Life” and the Clarín Prize for Novel 2009 with “Más”. He has been a finalist for the Herralde Novel Prize for “Dwarf Loves”. The Unicaja Foundation has opened, until 30 June 2022, the deadline for submitting works for the XXIII edition of this award. CHIEF ilm/vg/acm
