As part of World Poetry Day, celebrated on 21 March, a date that supports linguistic diversity through poetic expression, the BIK Foundation is promoting, for the second year in a row, the initiative “A Wall of Own”, an exhibition of poems that makes visible and revalued the work of renowned Peruvian poets. while promoting culture, peace and community welfare.
In the words of Fortuna Ludmir, executive director of the BIK Foundation, “this space is a meeting point of the passerby with themselves and with what words mobilize in their own history and in the stories of others; an emotional dialogue between their inner world and the texts printed on the wall. An accompaniment in their transit through the city and, from there, a dialogue with other stories. Poetry as a connector”.
A wall of its own was launched in March 2021 as a contribution to continue generating safe cultural spaces in face-to-face mode and to reflect on the importance of giving voice to our poets, as a way of knowing what women think and feel.
“Faced with the return of face-to-face activities, it is important to continue promoting cultural projects such as A Wall of Your Own. This allows us to generate spaces of expression and freedom. In addition, this date makes poetry visible in a different way, as it is a literary genre that very few people dare to explore”, says Sonia Cunliffe, artist, philanthropist and director of cultural management at Fundación BIK.
The exhibition can be visited freely outside the Larco Herrera Hospital where you can see the work of 36 outstanding authors such as Blanca Varela, Carmen Ollé, Magda Portal, Rocío Silva Santisteban, Mariela Dreyfus, Alessandra Tenorio, Cecilia Podestá, Danna Clark, Victoria Guerrero, Denisse Vega Farfan, María Emilia Cornejo and Rosella Di Paolo, among others.
The BIK Foundation, which promotes goodness and literature as tools of peace, carried out its project A wall of its own, thanks to the team formed by Soledad Cunliffe (curator), Sophia Durand (museography) and in partnership with Book Vivant, Oli Foundation, Larco Herrera Hospital and the Municipality of Magdalena del Mar.
