Forwards Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani, historic scorers of the Uruguayan national team with little shooting in their respective clubs in recent times, once again lead the team of La Celeste's squad for the last two dates of the South American qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

On Thursday, the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) released the list of those chosen by technical director Diego Alonso to face Peru next Thursday in Montevideo and Chile on March 29 in Santiago.

Suarez and Cavani, Celeste's first and second all-time goalscorer, respectively, appear unshakable, despite the fact that both have lost title in their clubs, Atletico Madrid and Manchester United.

Among the 26 players called up, there is only one football player from the local media: goalkeeper Sergio Rochet, from Nacional, who started the previous double round of the world championship, in which Uruguay beat Paraguay away 1-0 and beat Venezuela in Montevideo 4-1.

The attacker Maximiliano Gomez and the fliers Nicolás de la Cruz and Facundo Torres are the three names that return after their absence on the last double date.

Uruguay plays on Thursday a defining match against Peru, a direct rival for the fourth ticket to the World Cup. If he wins and Chile does not defeat Brazil as a visitor, he will qualify directly to Catar-2022.

La Celeste is in fourth position with 22 units, while the Incas appear fifth with a point less. Further back and still with chances appear Chile (19) and Colombia (17).

Brazil (39) and Argentina (35) are already qualified, while Ecuador third with 25 is one step away from achieving its World Cup quota.

The list of people called up by Alonso is as follows:
