
An earthquake of 5.5 degrees in Caylloma, Arequipa, has left more than 670 homes affected and at least 286 uninhabitable, according to the Regional Emergency Operations Center ( EAT).
The figure could increase, since housing in the most remote villages has yet to be counted. In addition, the district of Maca has been the most affected, as it concentrates most of the earthquake epicenters in the area. In the material damage inspection, 180 affected buildings and 60 homes were counted that could not be used due to the risk of their inhabitants.

In the district of Lari, 70 houses were also registered uninhabitable and 150 affected. In the case of El Madrigal, there are 60 uninhabitable houses and in Cabanaconde, 50 buildings with serious structural damage.

The earthquake occurred on March 16, but aftershocks have continued during March 17, according to a report by the Geophysical Institute of Peru (PGI). It had a magnitude of 5.5 degrees and caused rock detachment in several sections of the Cabanaconde-Pinchollo road.
The commune of Caylloma continues to carry out cleaning work to clear these transit routes.

20 EARTHQUAKES IN ONE DAY
The first earthquake on March 16, reported by the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP), was at 00:44 hours and a magnitude of 3.6 on the Richter scale. However, before them, at 12:53 p.m. on March 14, another one of the same magnitude had been reported.

In total there were 15 earthquakes on the same day.
The vast majority of telluric movements were detected in the localities of Maca, Pinchollo and El Madrigal, all in Caylloma (Arequipa). Among the most intense is the one that occurred at 5:20 and 23:54 hours, both with a magnitude of 4.3 degrees.
