Frankfurt (Germany), 15 Mar The Volkswagen automobile group achieved a net attributable profit of 14,843 million euros in 2021, 78.1 per cent more than in 2020, despite the shortage of semiconductors and the fall in sales. Last year, Volkswagen had a turnover of 250.2 billion euros (+12.3% compared to 2020), following the sale of more expensive vehicles and rising prices, and obtained an operating profit of 19,275 million euros (+99.2%). The car company believes that it achieved solid results and margin of operational profitability despite the shortage of semiconductors and sold 2.4 million fewer vehicles than in 2019. However, the drop in sales compared to 2020 was 581,000 units (6.3%), to 8,576 million units. Operating profitability on sales was 7.7% last year, compared to 4.3% in 2020. The group maintains a net liquidity position of 26,685 million euros compared to 2020, but with an increase of 5 billion euros compared to 2019. Sales of electric vehicles doubled and exceeded 450,000 units. The management and the supervisory board will propose at the next general meeting of shareholders the distribution of a dividend of 7.50 euros per ordinary share and 7.56 euros per preferred title for 2021 (4.80 and 4.86 euros, respectively, for 2020). The Volkswagen Group expects deliveries to rise by 5-10% in 2022 and operational profitability on sales to be between 7% and 8.5%, with turnover increasing by 8-13%. However, these forecasts depend on the war in Ukraine and its impact on the group's supply chains and the global economy. And also that the covid-19 pandemic does not worsen and that the shortage of intermediate products and raw materials decreases. The Volkswagen Group expects that the shortage of semiconductors will improve in the second half of the year compared to the first half of the year.
