Ukraine launches website to make donations in cryptocurrencies

Guardar

The Ukrainian government on Monday launched a website in partnership with cryptocurrency firms FTX and Everstake, which will channel donations to Ukraine's central bank as a way to combat the devastating Russian invasion.

On the “Help for Ukraine” site, users can currently offer donations in 10 cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin, ether, theter and dogecoin.

“Cryptocurrencies play a significant role in defending Ukraine,” Oleksandre Borniakov, Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation, said in a statement.

“Cryptocurrency assets have proven to be extremely valuable in facilitating the flow of funds to Ukrainian citizens and soldiers and in raising awareness and interest among the global public,” he added.

The company Everstake, one of the largest in Ukraine, will allow users to make donations in cryptocurrencies other than those listed on the website.

The Ukrainian cryptocurrency exchange platform Kuna is also part of the initiative.

On the website “Aid for Ukraine”, at 02H30 GMT on Tuesday, almost $49 million had been raised out of a total goal of $200 million.

This money will be used to support the Ukrainian army and civilians “in dire need of humanitarian assistance,” the alliance said in the statement.
