The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, lamented on Tuesday that almost a hundred children have died in the country as a result of the Russian invasion that began on February 24.

The president, who reported that the city of Mariupol has been left completely incommunicado, something that could seriously affect the civilian population, reported that 97 minors have lost their lives, according to reports from the Ukrinform news agency.

In a televised message to the Canadian Parliament, Zelenski accused the Russian army of “destroying everything.” “They destroy schools, hospitals, buildings. They have already killed 97 children,” he said.

“We didn't ask for much. We ask for justice and real support,” said the Ukrainian leader, who continues to seek support from the international community and will address the US Congress on Wednesday. “How many more missiles have to fall on our cities?” , he stressed.

In this regard, he called on Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Canada's deputies to imagine the main cities of their country being attacked. “Justin, can you imagine your kids listening to all these explosions?” , he declared.

Previously, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced sanctions against 15 other Russian officials, including “government and military elites who are complicit in this illegal war.” The measure brings to almost 500 the number of Belarusian, Russian and Ukrainian individuals and entities sanctioned by Ottawa since the beginning of the invasion.

“Vladimir Putin's blatant disregard for human life is unacceptable,” said the Canadian leader, while praising Zelensky as an inspiration. “Democracies around the world are lucky to have him as their advocate,” he said, promising that Ukraine can count on his “unwavering and firm” support.

Zelensky thanked Canada and other European countries on Tuesday for sanctions and the sending of arms and humanitarian aid, something that has been “key” for the country in the face of Russia's attack. However, he regretted that this did not end the war. “We all need to do more to stop Russia, to protect Ukraine. Please expand your efforts to bring peace back to our peaceful country,” he said.

On the other hand, the president of Ukraine also appealed to the 1.4 million Ukrainians residing in Canada, from whom he has asked for “help and support”. “Show that you are more than Ukrainian history,” he asked.
