The UEFA Champions League is in its most exciting stage of the championship: the elimination series. On this day, it is the turn of Mexicans Héctor Herrera and Edson Álvarez, who with their respective teams perform in the second leg of the round of 16. Atletico Madrid de HH faces Manchester United, while Ajax and Machín face off against Benfica.

Four squads have already qualified in the quarter-final round: Bayern Munich (beat RB Salzburg eight goals to two), Real Madrid (beat PSG by three goals to one), Liverpool (beat Inter Milan two goals to one) and Manchester City (beat Sporting Lisbon five goals by zero).

In addition to the clubs where Mexicans play, two more series remain to be defined. The first between Juventus de Turin and Villarreal, where the partial score is a tie to one score. The second is with Lille Olympique Sporting Club and Chelsea as protagonists, the advantage is two by zero for the English team.

At 14:00 hours, central Mexico time, the colchoneros play the pass on the court of the Old Trafford Stadium in English territory. Neither team looks like favorites in a series that is tied to one goal per side. However, the advantage of having public support will be for the Red Devils.

Hector Herrera looks like an element to start in the starting eleven of Cholo Simeone and in this regard he said: “I have had a lot of participation, I feel important in the team and quiet. I said I was going to give everything for this shirt and it has always been that way. When I don't play or play, I try to be as professional as possible and take advantage of the opportunities.”

And it is that the Mexican has become a fundamental piece in the results of the Madrid team with his performances in the midfield of the team. After spending the first half of the season with little or no participation, ExpaChuca now has five games that have started since minute zero. Against Manchester, he could add his sixth.

“I am happy with what I am doing, I always work 100% by the way for when the manager decides, to be prepared. I have always lived up to the team, if he didn't give me more opportunity that I deserved, it's his decisions and I respect them,” he added.

Like the commitment of his compatriot, Alvarez's team will jump on the court with the same schedule. But unlike that, he will do it as a venue at the Johan Cruyff Arena, in the Dutch city of Amsterdam.

Ajax has not been able to count on the Mexican midfielder in recent engagements due to physical discomfort. However, Erik ten Hag has already made it clear that he has the full availability of his elements to face Portuguese Benfica: “The squad is fully fit,” he said at a press conference prior to the engagement.

The series is tied to two goals. In the first leg, Ajax was the one who set the pace and had to be chased on the scoreboard, which gives a slight advantage over his rival (even more so when playing in front of his audience).
