Quito, 14 Mar Ecocinema, an international film distribution chain based on renewable energy, and Filmarte, its representation in Ecuador, opened a call for the presentation of audiovisual works that will be shown in a traveling film show powered entirely by solar energy. The call, aimed at all communities, schools, universities, professional filmmakers, non-professional collectives and audiovisual producers, will be open until April 3rd. The content of audiovisual works is free in the feature and short film categories, provided that they have been filmed or produced somewhere in the province of Santa Elena, located in southwestern Ecuador. The third category, entitled “Filminuto”, focuses on content on environmental care. The Peninsular Film Festival will take place between April 14 and June 5, and will take place in squares, parks and beaches in the province of Santa Elena, “where the sea, culture, its people and its stories are a fundamental part of the peninsular heart and of this film festival”, according to the organizers. “All the films are projected based on solar energy because we have a trailer that has solar panels in the back and a lot of batteries that collect solar energy so that at night we can use any space without having to connect to any electrical source,” Carolina Rodas, from Filmarte, told Efe Carolina Rodas. The exhibition seeks to strengthen audiovisual creation, opening up diverse content in new scenarios where this Ecuadorian province and its people can be made visible. It also aims to encourage storytellers to generate a local and contemporary cinematic visual memory, so that the customs and stories that give life to the Santa Elena Peninsula are not lost.
