Thursday 23 September marked the beginning of the 2021 edition of the European Week of Sport, with its launch being held in Bled, Slovenia. Promoting more active, healthier lifestyles to millions of people from all generations and backgrounds, the European Week of Sport is run every year from 23 – 30 September.

The opening day was also the moment when the European Commission launched its new ‘HealthyLifestyle4All’ initiative, with Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Ms Mariya Gabriel present to officially launch the initiative. This two-year campaign aims to link sport and active lifestyles with health, food as well as other policies, demonstrating the commitment of the European Commission to promoting healthy lifestyles for all.

The International School Sport Federation has pledged itself as one of these stakeholders which will provide a concrete contribution to this European Commission initiative. ISF pledges to promote, encourage, secure, and develop school sport activities, providing all groups of school students and particularly girls aged 6-18 years old, with more opportunities to practice, learn, and engage in sport from the local school level to the international level.

Representing this pledge was ISF President Mr Laurent Petrynka, who joined the launch taking place in the presence of major European and international sport organisations and national sport authorities, with the first set of pledges being presented. Mr Petrynka was part of the panel presenting their pledge under the topic of ‘Easier access to sport, physical activity and healthy diets, with special focus on inclusion and non-discrimination to reach disadvantaged groups’.

ISF President Laurent Petrynka: “Since the beginning of the creation of the European Week of Sport, ISF decided very clearly to be involved, and to do its utmost to promote the idea of a healthy and active lifestyle. At ISF, first and foremost, we have to take responsibility of the young generation. Thanks to the 132 ISF members, we are helping the share the message of the European Week all over the world.”
