(ATR) Tensions are mounting between the International Tennis Federation and Beijing organizers over the location of the tennis venue for the 2008 Olympics .
As part of moves to use existing venues instead of building new ones, Beijing 2008 is proposing to drop plans to build a National Tennis Center in the Olympic Green venue cluster, 2km from the Olympic Village.
Instead, the newly built Beijing Tennis Center, location of this year?s debut of the China Open, is now proposed for the Olympic tennis tournament.
Smaller than the tennis venue proposed in the Beijing bid and isolated from the rest of the Olympic action, 20+ km from the Village, the ITF is not pleased with the change.
?The ITF believes that organising committees have an obligation to honor proposals that they made in their bids for the Olympic Games,? federation president Francesco Ricci-Bitti tells Around the Rings.Com.
