July 13, 2004 (ATR) ? The Paralympic Games for 2008 in Beijing have a new logo, the Chinese character ?Zhi?. Made with three strokes of a pen, the logo is meant to represent heaven, Earth and humanity, according to Beijing officials.
The ceremony to unveil the Paralympic emblem came three years to the day of Beijing?s awarding of the 2008 Olympics and Paralympics.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deng Pufang, president of the China Disabled Person's Federation and recently named to the executive team at the organizing committee pledged that the Chinese government considers the 2008 Olympics and Paralympics as equals.
On hand for the ceremony were Francois Terranova, International Paralympic Committee vice president and the Kevan Gosper, Australia?s senior member of the International Olympic Committee and vice chair of the IOC?s commission for the 2008 Games.
