(ATR) The 7th Deadly Fun Run, an event organized by the Indigenous Marathon Project, saw Australian Olympians and Indigenous runners come together for a fun run and relay around Uluru.
More than 150 Indigenous runners joined 10 Olympians, four of whom are also Indigenous. Hurdler Kyle Vander Kuyp was excited to return to Uluru after participating in the event previously.
Kuyp said in a statement, "Of course, Uluru is a special place for Indigenous people, so it really is the ideal location. Not all of us come from that land but we do acknowledge that it has this spirituality that we all feel."
Each group of participants were welcomed by the Mutitjulu Community and presented the hosts a message stick or symbol from their own communities in appreciation.
Robert de Castella, Indigenous Marathon Project founder and Olympian marathoner, thanked the Olympians for joining in this event.
De Castella stated, "Having the AOC teams from both Summer and Winter Games will provide an incredible storytelling and inspiring opportunity for our runners. They will all return home with amazing stories and images to share and inspire their families and communities."
