After a day off, the Sochi torch relay resumed in Tyumen, Russia.

Located 1,700 km east of Moscow, Tyumen was the first settlement in Siberia after it was settled in 1568.

176 torchbearers carried the flame through the city, culminating with regional governor Vladimir Yakushev, who lit the Olympic Cauldron in the town square.

During the day’s relay, the flame traveled via snowboard, snowmobile, and skis to a pier on the River Tura. The flame was then transferred to swimmer Andrei Sychev, who swam for 100 meters in the icy water with the torch.

Tyumen is home to silver medalist Totrov Rustam, who competed in Greco-Roman wrestling at the London Olympics.

Tomorrow, the flame will travel to Tobolsk, the spiritual capital of Siberia. Tobolsk was the first capital of Siberia before losing importance to Tyumen in the region.

It also marks the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution for the Russian Federation.

Overall, 14,000 runners will carry the torch across a distance of 38,525 miles. The flame is touring 83 towns and cities before heading back into European Russia, and ultimately Sochi, for the 2014 Winter Olympics opening ceremony on February 7.

Torch in Georgia

A Sochi 2014 torch made its way to Stone Mountain, Georgia with American football star Harry Douglas.

Douglas, a wide receiver for the Atlanta Falcons, took the torch to Stone Mountain, the site of tennis, archery, and track cycling at the 1996 Olympics.

The Atlanta Falcons star posted the picture to Facebook with the caption "Good luck in Sochi, Team USA!"
