(ATR) French movie maker Luc Besson is keeping quiet about his latest work, a short film due to premier on July 6 during the Paris 2012 final presentation to the IOC Session. But auto giant Renault has revealed its cars play a starring role.
Speaking at a press conference in Singapore, Besson says he sees his involvement in the campaign for a Paris Olympics as an "obligation as a (French) citizen and as a Parisian."
"I think we need it. Paris and the Parisians need the Olympic Games. We are all a little depressed now in France."
Besson -- whose movie credits include La Femme Nikita, Joan of Arc and The Fifth Element -- has been working on the short film for the last six months.
He says a Paris victory would be a breath of fresh air for his homeland, and cites the values associated with the Olympics movement which center around relationships with people around the world.
But when it comes to details on his contribution to the city's presentation Besson won't get into specifics.
He would not talk about the length of the film, who is in it, and what theme it will follow, likening his role to that of person with the task of gift wrapping the final package, selecting the color and tying a ribbon around it.
"I'm like an interpreter," Besson says.
"There's this group of people that has been working for two years now (on the Paris 2012 bid).
"I'm here to put (their message) in frames and sound...I'm not here to do a film by Luc Besson...(I am) here to participate and help."
But while Besson may not prepared to say much, one of the Paris 2012 major supporters, French car manufacturer Renault, has revealed one aspect of the film.
According to a statement by Renault, it has loaned Besson vehicles for his "Paris 2012 Olympics" film.
Renault says the film includes a scene where 20 of its Modus vehicles, in Olympic colors, criss-cross the Obelisk in Paris and form the Olympic rings.
And the car maker says other Renault models, including the Megane, Espace, Laguna and Vel Satis will also feature in shots of roads along the Paris embankment and outskirts.
Another cinema secret for the July 6 final presentations is the still-unconfirmed involvement of Steven Spielberg in New York City's presentation.
"Steven is my hero," says Besson.
"To lose in front of him will be an honor and to win in front of him will be a super honor".
