(ATR) The campaign in Norway for the 2018 Winter Olympics now includes a joint proposal from Oslo and Lillehammer, two cities that have hosted the Games before.
The Oslo city government approved the joint bid Wednesday.
Oslo hosted the 1952 Winter Games, Lillehammer in 1992.
The two cities are 185 km apart.
Alpine skiing and the sliding events would be held in Lillehammer while the arena events such as skating and ice hockey would be held in Oslo,
Two other cities are also bidding for the Norwegian nomination, Tromsoe on the Arctic Circle and Trondheim in the central portion of the country.
The Norwegian Olympic Committee is planning to choose a nominee in February.
Oslo's last bid for the Games came more than 40 years ago when it tried for 1968. Lillehammer partnered with Helsinki, Finland for a 2006 bid that was rejected by the IOC at an early stage.
The IOC will not begin the process of selecting a 2018 host city until mid-2009.
