On Wednesday 27 June, the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay - presented by Coca-Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung - will travel 111.99 miles through 19 communities on its journey from Grimsby to Lincoln.
The Relay will travel through the following communities: Grimsby, Louth, Legbourne, Withern, Maltby Le Marsh, Mablethorpe, Trusthorpe, Sutton on Sea, Mumby, Hogsthorpe, Ingoldmells, Winthorpe, Skegness, Wainfleet All Saints, Wrangle, Boston, Sleaford, Bracebridge Heath and Lincoln.
Highlights for today include:
6:14am - The first Torchbearer of the day will be Alan Ellinson, 55 from Stockport, who will abseil down one of the Humber region's most iconic landmarks - the Dock Tower at Grimsby Docks. Alan was nominated through the LOCOG campaign for his extensive local charity work which, through charity abseil and zipwire events, has helped to raise over £12million for a variety of different charities for the last 15 years. He runs a climbing centre and coaches children all the way through from beginners to competing nationally in the British Youth Climbing series.
12:18pm - The Flame will be carried onto Skegness Beach by Torchbearer Starr Halley, 15 from Skegness. Starr was nominated through the Samsung campaign for her courageous battle with a severe brain tumour called Medulloblastoma at just 12 years old. She endured intense radio and chemotherapy but has since recovered and gone onto charity work in the name of her illness. As part of planned training sorties, an RAF Typhoon aircraft will fly by Skegness and Bracebridge Heath will see an E3-D fly by.
6:50pm - The last Torchbearer of the day will be Jules Hanks, aged 46, from Sleaford, Lincolnshire. Julie was nominated through the Lloyds TSB campaign for her inspirational charity work, which will see her climbing Kilimanjaro to raise money for a dental charity. Julie will light the cauldron at the evening celebration in Lincoln. The Red Arrows are scheduled to fly by the Lincoln Evening Celebration as part of a planned training sortie.
The evening celebration will take place at Yarborough Leisure Centre in Lincoln and begin at 5pm. It will feature a variety of entertainment staged by LOCOG and the three Presenting Partners of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay - Coca-Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung - with support from Lincoln City Council. The show will start at 5pm.
Working with the City Council and commissioned by Lincoln Drill Hall, local company In Production Music will showcase local talent with a large scale dance and gymnastic show at the start and finish of the Evening Celebration - named One World.
Around 100 local musicians, dancers and gymnasts will perform on and off the stage to music taken from around the world. The two pieces will feature around 25 musicians playing a mix of dubstep, banghra, hip-hop and world music styles accompanied by a cast of 50 dancers and 20 gymnasts, parkour artists and free runners. The choreography will feature two routines, one of which will be a processional march through the crowds to signal the arrival of the Torch, and the other a fantastic set piece using colourful and exciting props, which will bring the event to a close.
Lloyds TSB Flame Followers Spectacular' will feature their troupe of performers who will travel along the route of the 70 day Olympic Torch Relay. Their performance is a unique fusion of street performance, theatre and sport - celebrating the endeavour, athleticism, agility and skill of our national Olympic sporting heroes, Team GB.Coca-Cola will bring the singer, Loick Essien to the evening celebration, whilst 'Britain's Got Talent' finalists Twist & Pulse have been chosen by Samsung to invite the nation to take part in the Olympic Games experience at each of the 66 Evening Celebration events across the country.
Torchbearer highlights:
Courtney Limb, 14, from Lincoln was selected through the Coca-Cola Future Flames programme. Courtney will carry the Flame through Bracebridge Heath. Courtney has Type 1 Diabetes but this does not stop her fulfilling her passion of all sports. Her dream is to represent England Ladies and is currently an elite player for Lincoln Ladies Centre of Excellence.
Keith Hebblewhite, 75, from Lincoln was nominated through the Lloyds TSB campaign and will carry the Flame in Lincoln. Keith has been an amateur runner and supporter of British athletics for more than 35 years. His first marathon was the first London marathon in which he raised over £1000 for the Vera Dean Charity for the terminally ill, enabling Lincoln City to buy its first body scanner. He was also responsible for bringing the world-famous male voice choir Morriston Orpheus to sell-out performances at Lincoln Cathedral, with all proceeds going to Lincolnshire's St. Barnabas Hospice. Today, in his 75th year, he continues with his charitable work. Keith's support for the British athletics team has taken him all over the world including to two Olympic Games in Moscow and Sydney, six World Championships, and numerous European and Commonwealth Games. Our London Olympics will be the greatest show on earth and as a family we would be hugely proud if Keith could be a part of it by being one of the Torchbearers.
Amir Ameen, 18, from Doncaster, carrying the Flame in Grimsby was selected through the LOCOG campaign. Amir has acted as a Leader in the Cherry Willingham Leadership Academy, helping with Primary School festivals and competitions. Amir has also acted as an Ambassador in mentoring younger gifted and talented pupils in the Leadership Pod in school. As one of two Platinum Ambassadors, he planned and presented the Adistar Leaders training day in which they were tasked with exploring ideas on the Olympic legacy. Anna Hemmings MBE gave an inspiring presentation on her Olympic experiences, and this complemented Amir's focus on the Olympic values and making a positive impact on the community. He has captained School football and badminton teams and has played in rugby, athletics and cross country teams. He has been on NGB coaching courses for these sports and is taking the Community Sports Leaders Award and hopes to use these in the future. Out of school, Amir has been given funding by the FA to enable him to volunteer as a coach at Doncaster Rovers Disability Football Club where he is also working to improve their facilities. He has been selected by the County FA to attend this year's FA National Football Futures Camp and has applied for the FA Coach's Scholarship programme.
Arlene Moxon, 31, from Boston, carrying the Flame in Skegness was nominated through the Samsung campaign. Arlene is a voluntary youth worker and treasurer for a local youth club, a voluntary youth leader for her local RSPB Wildlife explorer group and an assistant instructor at a local kung fu class.
Nicolas Hope, 33 from Lincoln nominated by Lincoln City Council through the LOCOG campaign, lives in the Sincil Bank and is passionate about delivering activities for young people. One of the projects that Nick is involved in is a project known as Stand Up Speak Up which uses sport to bring young people of different nationalities together outside of the school setting. Nick is now one of the senior volunteers on the project and he supports a number of other voluntary projects within the neighbourhood.
