Jordan Assist for 2016
The role of Olympian and NBA great Michael Jordan in Chicago's bid to become the U.S. nominee for the 2016 is still being defined, Around the Rings is told by a bid official.
A media leak in Chicago Thursday revealed that Jordan will play a part in the bid.
While Chicago 2016's Patrick Sandusky confirm's Jordan's participation, he says the exact nature of what he'll do is "not yet firmly defined".
He says an announcement had been planned, but will likely be pushed back.
Bid leaders are out of pocket next week for visits to Athens and London.
Jordan, 43, is a two time gold medalist (1984 and 1992) and played 15 seasons in the NBA, mostly with the Chicago Bulls. He still lives in the Chicago area.
The news about Jordan is the latest in a flurry of attention generated for the bid since pr firm Hill and Knowlton has joined the campaign as a media advisor.
Thursday the bid released its new logo and in the coming week, Mayor Richard Daley will be in the news for his upcoming European trip to gather information for the Olympics bid.
Los Angeles Has Logo, Too
In our October 12 stories about the new Chicago logo, we incorrectly indicated that the new emblem was a first among the three cities hoping to bid for 2016 from the U.S, Los Angeles and San Francisco the others.
Los Angeles 2016 board member David Simon points out that its bid has had a logo since September 2005. He says the logo "has served us well" and will not be updated for now. The palm-tree shaded emblem is used on a lapel pin for Los Angeles 2016, and is believed to be the first pin from one of the three U.S. cities.
