The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) has appointed a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to oversee the strategic direction of the medical functions for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018).
Doctor Anita Green (MBBS MSpMed FRACGP FASMF FAICD) brings to GOLDOC a wealth of experience in the sports medicine industry.
She has spent more than 20 years working with elite and aspiring athletes in a range of sports and has been pivotal in the organisation of medical coverage for a range of elite international competitions and large community participation events.
An experienced team leader who has chaired a variety of health sector committees and not-for-profit boards, Dr Green has strong relationships across allied industries that will provide valuable input as the GC2018 medical function develops.
With key medical officer roles at some of Australia’s preeminent events, including the National A League Soccer, Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games and the Brisbane Marathon and Gold Coast Airport Marathon, Dr Green will oversee the delivery of the Games-time medical response.
"Australian has some of the best trained and experienced sports medicine professionals available to provide world-class multidisciplinary care for the athletes who will compete at the Games," Dr Green said.
"This frontline care with be integrated with the local and regional health services to provide for the health needs of all the athletes and team officials, as well as spectators.
"It is a wonderful challenge to bring together the large team of health professions to make the 2018 Games a safe and successful event," she said.
GOLDOC CEO Mark Peters said the CMO role was a very important honorary position and fundamental in the development of the services that would ultimately respond to medical demands at all GC2018 venues.
"Dr Green will impart her extensive experience to ensure we recruit a highly credentialed medical team that meets the varied requirements of the medical function, from establishment of the multi-disciplinary Polyclinic in the Commonwealth Games Village to providing medical services to athletes at the competition venues," Mr Peters said.

The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games™ (GC2018) will be staged from 4-15 April 2018.

Dr Anita Green works at the University of Queensland Health Service as a General Practitioner and is a Visiting Medical Officer at The Prince Charles Hospital Heart Lung Institute.
She has 20 years’ experience with sports medicine coverage and is a past National President of Sports Medicine Australia.
Dr Green is an experienced medical educator, with an appointment as a part time Senior Lecturer with the University of Queensland
School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences.
She has two decades of experience as a director on not-for-profit Boards in the health sector and is currently a Director of Cancer Council Queensland and Cancer Council Australia, Deputy Chair of the Brisbane North Primary Health Network and a member of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners Queensland Advisory Board.
Her passion for Sports Medicine stems from the opportunity to work as a multidisciplinary team to achieve the best possible outcome for recreational and elite athletes.
