Dr. Rafael Santonja was re-elected IFBB President for the next four-year term. The election took place at the IFBB Congress in Brasilia, Brazil, held in conjunction with the 2014 IFBB World Bodybuilding Championships.

Dr. Santonja has successfully led the IFBB since his election in 2006 in Ostrava, Czech Republic, and then reelected in 2010 in Baku. Under his leadership and with the support of a strong and diverse Executive Committee the IFBB has grown to a number that has now reached 190 affiliated national federations including the recent approval of the Mariana Islands at the Congress in Brasilia.

The IFBB and its affiliated continental organizations are responsible for organizing over 2,000 events a year, including some multi sports like the famously recognized and growing (three continents) Arnold Sport Festival, in collaboration with Arnold Schwarzenegger, now being held in continental settings.

IFBB athletes have benefited with this number of international events and participation has increased by 400% since 2010. Growth in quantity has brought along a streamlined and mature development of new popular categories with parameters based on height/weight. The IFBB’s web presence, with a fully digital magazine and Facebook pages has allowed us to average 15 million individual visits per month.

Among other projects that have turned into successful programs are the collaborative educational programs with universities and scientific institutions that include healthy lifestyle guidelines, anti-doping measure and preventive and education instruction. These programs have been aided by the presence of the IFBB in regional multi-sport games.

Social media and traditional distribution by TV, thanks to collaboration with Eurovision that offers live broadcast of major championships via satellite has allowed IFBB to reach wide international audiences.

Dr. Rafael Santonja has made a commitment to consolidate the growth of the sport in all its disciplines, and continues to use the popularity of the IFBB as a tool towards healthy lifestyles that include youngsters and continue to provide guidance to individuals in the third age.
