The first pair of tickets for the Glasgow 2014 Opening Ceremony has been won, through the Organising Committee’s Sport Your Trainers campaign which encourages Scots to lead a healthy, active lifestyle.

The Opening Ceremony, which will take place at Celtic Park on July 23 2014, will be a chance to showcase the culture of Glasgow and Scotland to the thousands of spectators in the stadium and the millions of people in the worldwide television audience. As well as including protocol such as the parade of nations, the arrival of the Head of the Commonwealth and the conclusion of the Queen’s Baton Relay, the Ceremony will kick off Scotland’s greatest sporting event in style.

Claire Bell, 38, from Kirkcaldy, saw an advert for the campaign and decided to get involved. Luckily for the 38-year-old, Claire has secured her seat to watch the historic event unfold live in the stadium.

Claire Bell, who has secured the first two tickets for the Opening Ceremony, said:

"I’m absolutely thrilled to have the first pair of tickets to the Opening Ceremony for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. I remember watching the Handover Ceremony from the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games on TV and feeling so proud to be Scottish. Standing in the stadium with empty seats puts shivers down your neck; I can’t wait to be there to experience Opening Ceremony live - it’s going to be an amazing experience."

Glasgow 2014 Chief Executive David Grevemberg said:

"Opening Ceremonies are defining moments in a Commonwealth Games. The Glasgow 2014 Opening Ceremony will be no different as we kick off the biggest sporting event in Scotland’s history. Congratulations to Claire on winning the first pair of tickets, I’m sure 23 July 2014 will be an unforgettable day for her."

"The Glasgow 2014 sporting competition takes place over 17 days in 2014 but the lasting impact that Glasgow 2014 has on Scotland lies in campaigns such as Sport Your Trainers. If we can encourage more Scots to take up exercise and lead healthier lifestyles, all the better."

Sport Your Trainers, a campaign run by Glasgow 2014 which encourages Scots to wear their trainers on Commonwealth Day each year, took place on March 12 2012. The campaign saw people of all ages, from all parts of the country, walk to work or go for a stroll at lunchtime, leading a healthier, more active lifestyle and at the same time entering into a prize draw to secure the first pair of tickets for the Glasgow 2014 Opening Ceremony.

Glasgow 2014’s Sport Your Trainers campaign was backed by athletes and celebrities including Carol Smillie, Fred MacAulay, Lee McConnell, Michelle Mone, Craig Hill, Gavin Hastings, Liz McColgan, the crew of the HMS Defender, Real Radio’s presenters and even Edinburgh Zoo’s Dillon the armadillo.
