After the great success of the fabulous against-the-clock along Lake Annecy on July 23rd, 2009 with over 200 000 spectators, the Tour de France is back in the Savoie Mont-Blanc region. The Tour de France is the third most viewed sports event on the planet and a perfect opportunity to discover or rediscover the beauty of the exceptional natural setting that France has to offer to the organization of the 2018 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Annecy.
Yesterday, Sunday July 11th, in Morzine-Avoriaz over 20,000 spectators cheered the arrival of the Tour de France cyclists. On this occasion, hundreds of teens were dressed in the Olympic colors to show their support of Annecy 2018.
Tomorrow, after their day of rest, the cyclists will be off for a new mountain stage of 204.5 km from Morzine to Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne.
It is in this magical natural setting, between lake and mountains, a perfect natural location for sporting activities that Annecy wishes to host the 2018 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
"Sports here are a way of life, a second nature", explained Edgar Grospiron, CEO of Annecy 2018 at the finish line of the Tour de France in Morzine. "Land of sports and champions, we host large scale international sports events in summer and winter on a regular basis: Tour de France, Evian Golf Master, or 60 % of World Cup ski events organized in France! By next winter we will be ready for the international sports season with numerous World Cup Events in great venues such as: Val d’Isère,Courchevel, Chamonix, La Clusaz, La Plagne and Le Grand Bornand."
"A perfect opportunity to show the entire world our expertise in the organisation of major international competitions," he concluded.
