(ATR) Eight IOC members and representatives from three of the 2012 Olympics bid cities, including Madrid Mayor Alberto Ruiz Gallardon, have turned up in Andorra for the opening of the Games for the Small States of Europe.
Along with the Madrid mayor, staff from Madrid 2012 have made the journey to the Pyrenees as well as New York City?s Dan Doctoroff and Philippe Baudillon of Paris.
IOC President Jacques Rogge was one of the eight IOC members attending the opening ceremony Tuesday night. IOC Honorary President Juan Antonio Samaranch was also on hand.
The Andorra games feature a record 793 athletes from eight nations, competing in 10 sports. Held every two years, this is the 11th edition of the event.
Membership in the small states games is limited to European nations with populations under 1 million.
These include: Andorra, Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, San Marino and Monaco.
After the first day of competition, Cyprus led the medal table. The games will end on June 4.
